I have found and installed a different 'Recent comments' widget. It seems to be more sophisticated than the earlier one. If you click on the 'show all' button at the top, all the comments expand to their full length in the sidebar. And down at the bottom, there is an option for viewing all the earlier comments. If this one actually works, it will mean that all comments, however old, can be accessed in chronological order.
I have removed the other, intermittently manifesting, 'recent comments' programme. Please let me know if you have any problems with this new one.

David,
I seem to be now getting Recent Comments well. This seems to work. I will report again after two days of regular vists to the site.

Dear David, the new format is
better and more convenient.
So long as there is no fresh problem, this can continue till
you devise a still better one.
David, I'm not able to access Recent Comments, even with the new system. This is a problem at my end, not yours, and I don't anticipate it changing. I am fine with whatever you do with the comments. I like it when you post them but would understand completely if you stopped doing that.
I remember you saying a while back that you had a very old computer. (At least I think it was you.) The 'recent comments' programme is a java script add-on. You may have an old operating system that doesn't display this kind of stuff. Perhaps some of the readers here could give you tips on how to view it.
Yes, you're right, David. It was I who said that about my old computer, in an email, when I first joined the blog. I have an 8-year-old Mac Powerbook with a 9.2 operating system. There's all kinds of stuff I can't see or do with my computer, but apparently it doesn't bother me enough that I do anything about it, like get a new computer.
The problem I'm having with the recent comments--at least what I've confronted so far (there may be more, but I can never get past a certain point)--is that I can't even log into the blog (it doesn't seem to recognize my password, etc.) and therefore can't access recent comments. When I click on 'recent comments' it takes me to the sign-in page, and even when I sign in, it just keeps taking me back there and eventually the computer crashes. I'm not even sure why I'm able to MAKE comments, although I sometimes have problems with that as well and end up having to sign up again (i.e. open a new account), right in the middle of sending a comment.
I may ask my service provider about this, but I suspect they will say it's just my old 9.2 OS that's the problem. If anyone out there has any suggestions, I am happy to hear them. Keep in mind I am not very computer savvy!
Thanks!
I think Blogger is in the process of trying to make people shift from a Blogger user name and password to a Google one. Sometimes it rejects the user name and password you originally signed up with in an attempt to make you set up the additional identity. Is your log in failing with both Google and Blogger identities?
Any time I've tried to log in it has failed, and I think that includes both Blogger and Google. If I remember right, when I originally signed up I signed up with a Google account, but I think I've also signed up on Blogger, because I remember that the sign-up pages were different. It's possible I've been getting them mixed up and didn't realize it. I'll try experimenting a little and see if I can figure anything out. Maybe I'll get lucky......
Thanks for your feedback and help on this, David.
If you 'bookmark' the blog (I don't know what that function is called on Apple operating systems) you can go straight there without having to sign in.
Jupes
I spoke to someone this morning who works with an Apple. He said: 'Go to "preferences" in your Safari browser and tick the box that says "enable Java script". If that doesn't work, your browser may be an old version. You can download the latest version for free and then try the same "enable Java script" option with the new one.'
David, thank you for this further info. I do have the blog bookmarked, so I guess that's taken care of. I checked Java under Preferences and it was already enabled. So, that makes me think my browser is the problem. I've had 'security certificate' problems on my computer in recent months (i.e. they're no longer being updated because of the age of my browser) and have had this thoroughly checked by my service provider, who happens to be here in town. Since I have a laptop I was able to easily take it to their office and have them work with it directly. Afterwards I was told that I have the most up to date browser that my OS will support and that if I want anything more current I will have to get a new computer. So, updating the browser is not an option, unfortunately. I will call them, though, and see if there's anything else I can do. And if not, then I'll limp along a while longer with what I've got.
Oh, and I did try clicking on 'recent comments' again just now. It took me to the Blogger login page and asked for my Google password. When I typed that in and hit 'send' it just came back again, blank, as if it had never been sent. I did this several times.
Thank you again, David.

David,
Just to inform you, ever since you installed the new widget, I am getting the "Recent Comments" always.

'java enabled' and 'javascript enabled' are not the same thing. Recent Comments uses javascript.

Thank you for that info. I will check into it.
Jupes,
It was absolutely amazing (& heartening) to read that you are working with an 8 yr old machine. I have a much loved 5 yr old HP desktop myself, which one refuses to change as it does the work adequately well.
But it pauses & goes into meditative lapses and downloads big pages (like esp the "recent comments") only after much vicharam ...
But as long as it works it shall continue on my desk.
regards
Arvind, thank you for your sweet comments about our old computers. It is amazing how hard it is to let go of one's computer, even when it is way past functioning well within the net world realm. The one I had before this was also a Powerbook that I bought new in 1993. It's hard to even fathom this now, but that computer had only 4 MB of RAM and I was still able to have internet access with it, although text only. I stopped using it 4 years ago when I bought my current computer (used, from a friend, for $100). Of course, the new one was lightyears ahead of the old one, but now this one is like something out of the Dark Ages.
I checked into Javascript. My old browsers (Explorer and Netscape) don't have it and won't support the current versions (if that's the right terminology). As I said in a previous comment, I have the most up-to-date browsers I can use with this old 9.2 OS. My service provider confirmed that the only way I can get past this problem (and all the others I have) is to buy a newer computer. I'm sure that will happen at some point, but until it does I will be dealing with this one and its limitations.
David, as far as the 'recent comments' are concerned, I am ok with you not posting them. I don't expect you to post them just for me, and it ends up using up posting space that would be better used for something else.
Thanks to everyone for listening to my computer woes, and many thanks to David and Anonymous for helping with the troubleshooting.

Excuse me, but does someone here knows the meaning of the letters in Appendix II, p. 110, in Advaita Bodha Deepika - Lamp of Nondual Knowledge? I need it for my translation.
This is the link to the picture with the text:
Letters in Appendix II, p. 110, Advaita Bodha Deepika
.
Ramos,
This is how the text goes ,in the link referred to-
As firmly convinced by Realising AHAM BRAHMASMI(I am Brahman) as the present DEHOHAM(DEHA=Body,AHAM=I)idea.
I truly appreciate your tremendous earnestness.
Best Regards.
Best Regards.
.
Thanking you warmly, Ravi. But what is the meaning of the third group of letters? Is it "jivanmukti"?
.
Ramos,
"But what is the meaning of the third group of letters? Is it "jivanmukti"?"
Yes.
Salutations.
Ramos/Friends,
You may like to check this site where swami Yogeshananda shares his comprehension of Hinduism and Vedanta in a very easy and interesting way;worth noting is what he told the girl students regarding what he found in Vedanta which was not in christianity!
Please check this site:

Scott Fraundorf;
What he said was good, being a biology major I have to make a correction on the Darwin thing. In evolution by natural selection, there is no aim, and it is not reaching a higher state, or more intelligent, such as toward humans, it's a statistical process, where a bunch of forms are born, and then certain traits are more successful, so statistically those become more prominent, but as the environment changes, what is more successful changes as well.
And with sexual selection, such as what female and male animals find attractive in a mate, it's interesting that that is determined by random drift. In most mammals for instance, female's are more often the choosy sex, the female's "taste" drifts randomly, and then male's taht fit those traits more, have more reproductive success.
In general among mammals, males are not choosy with mates, and are mate limited meaning, not every male gets to mate, so the ones that fit what females arbitrarily like are more likely to mate. Humans are a little weird in this regard, and the choosiness is both ways, but I would guess that males are still more mate limited then females.
Ramos,
"But what is the meaning of the third group of letters? Is it "jivanmukti"?"
Yes.
